Queens native, Haron Hargrave has had a passion and drive for the game of basketball since his early days at Campus Magnet High School. His high school basketball prowess translated to a scholarship at Sacramento State University in California eventually leading Haron to be drafted for the Continental Basketball Association. Haron experienced a flourishing international professional basketball career playing in Romania, Hungary, China, Dominican Republic, Colombia and Mexico. In 2008 while attending Sacramento State Haron would lose his close childhood friend to gun violence, in his Queens neighborhood this served as a call to action for Haron. Determined to stem the loss of life in his community, Haron created Queens Week, an anti violence movement rooted around competitive sports, creative arts, and live performances. With family, food and fun at its core, the annual summertime event strives to unite its Queens residents and strike a blow against gun violence in a community that currently ranks second-highest in homicides and third-highest in shooting incidents for the five boroughs. Haron continues to be active in the fight against violence for Queens and all boroughs of New York City through his H20 Sports Foundation. The H20 foundation presents its annual Ballin 4 Peace-- a series of sports related events played throughout Queens and the five boroughs during the summer months. Ballin 4 Peace is committed to strengthening communities by providing anti violence programming through recreation, entertainment, and education designed to positively impact the lives of individuals from all walks of life, with primary focus for at-risk youths and encourage them to make peaceful, smart, informed decisions regarding conflict.
