Details: Gloria Waslyn and the Parrots For Peace       By way of introduction, Gloria Waslyn has been engaged for nearly twenty years with the campaign of presenting her companion parrots to people at a variety of peace, sustainability and social and environmental justice actions. The purpose is to create an opportunity for a hands on experience for people by interacting with the family of blue and gold macaws who are representing the voice of nature and wildlife as everyday Ambassadors of a renewed awareness that we are all connected on a living planet. They believe it shifts consciousness and also behaviors from small things like personal recycling and purchasing choices for sustainably produced products to large campaigns for no hydrofracking in NYS and standing with the Water Protectors in solidarity with the Standing Rock people calling for a halt to the North Dakota Access Pipeline. The family of blue and gold macaws are Ms. Merlin, turning 18 years old today (Dec 10th), her life-mate, Mr. Baby, now 17-½ who she met while on vacation from NYC to Cape Cod when she was a year old and their two children. Peace-nik is  6 and was named after Pete Seeger, who the peace parrot parents sang with for years at a corner in Wappingers Falls, NY, close to Beacon, when they implored bringing the troops home and an end to war. Ara, 4 years old, was named by Pete when Merlin laid a second egg. He thought children would be able to say hello to the parrots in their own natural language since the Indigenous people of the Amazon Rainforest listened to the flock as they made their vocalizations. It sounded like they were saying Arrarra with the roll of the r sound. Ara, Pete thought, would be easy for young people to say and when they got older they could speak Macaw, the language of their species and it would be a deep and respectful greeting similar to Namaste, Aloha, Shalom and Salaam. We are so happy to have them here today. We met Gloria and the Parrots For Peace recently at a World Fashion Show, Fashion For Peace. The Parrots For Peace were advocating the sustainable fashion idea of not sacrificing a living creature for a fur collar or tortoise shell buttons, snake skin belts or leather coats unless the animal was being used fully and they do not support factory farming of animals for the fashion or any other trade.Their motto, “May there be peace between All People, All Animals, and All of Nature as We Learn to live in Harmony with our one shared mother, Earth,” says it all.The Parrots For Peace live in Kingston, NY area of the Hudson Valley just a couple of hours upstate from the city now. They are on a mission to find a home that will be their sanctuary to receive families for workshops on Peace and Collaboration Communication, music, arts and a consciousness of a shift to a peace culture.Their website is www.ParrotsForPeace.orgGloria Waslyn 557 Broadway, 9A, Port Ewen, NY 12464 917-697-6916gloriawaslyn@gmail.com
