July 24th, 2017- New York, NY-Nitty Scott is an Afro-Latina recording artist and poet from New York City. Nitty has worked with an impressive list of respected rappers such as Kendrick Lamar, Action Bronson and more since her breakthrough at the 2011 BET Hip-Hop Awards Cypher.
In 2016, she contributed to the score for the Paramount Pictures film Zoolander 2, became an official SPRITE P.O.U.R. artist and the face of the Miller Lite Kickback Series. She joined the Salaam Remi-produced collective No Panty with fellow members Joell Ortiz and Bodega Bamz.
Nitty also lends her voice to activism and women's rights, guest speaking at The Ray of Hope Walk, the Sadie Nash Foundation and performed at The United Nations Peace Day Concert. Whether she's releasing her music independently, touring internationally or engaged in community outreach, Nitty's work continues to evolve and expand not only as a promising lyricist but as a performer whose words flow like a soothsayer advocating for social justice.
Her new record, Creature! is due out July 21st and is a celebration of Afro-Latina identity and spirit. Inspired by ancestral vibrations, radical womanism, magic and cultural revolution, it's piña coladas in the concrete jungle... island roots on city stoops... the urban Tropicana. Several interludes also tell the whimsical story of Negrita in Wonderland where Nitty struggles to stop herself from falling down the "rabbit hole", landing in a pre-colonized world where she is free to explore her indigenous past. Purple, pink, turquoise, orange. CREATURE! Is tribal, trippy mixed girl liberation.

The debut video from the record, “La Diaspora” will be available July 14th. The video is a tribute to the women warriors of the Afro-Latino diaspora.

Nitty says, “I wrote the song while thinking about the experience of inner-city brown women, especially ones with island roots like myself. Being in NYC sometimes feels like I traded my tropical jungle for a concrete one, replaced the palm trees with steel and the sand with asphalt. This can sometimes make me feel so disconnected from my source, from nature and the ideals that ground me. I’m reminded of the greater narrative, the mass dispersion of native peoples throughout history that have led to the cultural amnesia that is felt generations later. The video is dedicated to the daughters of the diaspora, descendants of Africa and its indigenous people.”

The Creature! record starts with a prayer to Oshun, who is an orisha, a deity that reflects one of the manifestations of God in the Ifá and Yoruba religions.

Nitty continues and adds, “To include this in my work is an important personal statement because of the demonization of African religion in the world that I was raised in and live in. Rituals and magic tied to these religions are always seen as evil, and I've broken free from those ideas. I left my religion and can now embrace others without the fear I've been conditioned to feel. The word creature itself is undefinable, and I think people should be more open to the fact that we’re never in our final form."

Nitty Scott’s new record will be available July 21st, 2017.
