Jamaican Mafia is about Zoolian Anderson (Mykal Fax), a frustrated car salesman who desperately desires riches and respect. He discovers that he’s the nephew of a powerful crime-boss named Soljie (Paul Campbell). Zoolian eventually decides to quit the corporate world to join Soljie’s ruthless criminal organization. This film leads a journey into dark places, lit up along the way by laughter, sex and thriller-worthy surprises that will leave viewers discussing and debating it long after the movie ends.
Mykal Fax Screenwriter and Lead Actor: “Zoo-Zoo”
Mykal Fax
is one of the few successfully blending his art forms to create great movies. Mykal is a multi-faceted creative force whose work crosses the borders of directing, acting, producing, writing, and singing on the soundtrack, the result of which is always arresting and forever fresh. His brand of creative cross-pollination fuses in a way that leaves the world in awe, and craving for more. Mykal is the Screenwriter of and creative mind behind “Jamaican Mafia”, the movie.
To date, Mykal has directed and acted in lead roles on screen and on the stage; but don’t be fooled by the baby-face. Mykal has spent over a decade honing his directing and acting skills for film and his recent foray into theater. Jamaican-born Mykal Fax migrated to the United States in the early 1990’s. Shortly after settling in Brooklyn, NY, Mykal found himself exploring the medium of video as a tool for expression. While at Samuel J. Tilden High School, Mykal and his friends experimented with sketching and recording short plays on home-made videos. Once these videos began circulating, people took note of Mykal’s early performances and were pleased with his raw talent. At the urging of viewers, Mykal started to look at acting with more seriousness and saw greater possibilities for a career as a filmmaker. Mykal used the support and encouragement from people who were in sheer awe of
his impromptu video performances to build his esteem around his passion of acting, writing, and directing movies. Without hesitation, Mykal used the momentum of his video performances to launch his career in motion pictures. Armed with his God-given talents, Mykal wrote his first full length feature called “Foreign”, and went ahead and produced it with a super low budget back in 2006. Mykal played multiple roles in front and behind the camera. He was Producer, Assistant Director, Casting Director, Location Scout, Boom Operator, Camera Operator and Protagonist. Surprisingly, “Foreign” became a smash hit amongst West Indians and later, was bootlegged worldwide.
In addition to producing “Foreign”, Mykal went back to work and released: “Bashment”, his second film, which was premiered in October of 2007 in movie theatres across Jamaica. It was highly acclaimed by the Jamaican Sunday Gleaner. “Bashment” outpaces many Jamaican-made films that have come before it. The drama
and intrigue makes it take a back seat to none, not even the classic “The Harder They Come.” Following “Bashment” was “The Roaming Lion”, which was a very suspenseful crime-thriller that was released straight to DVD by VP Records in 2009. Mykal made a guest appearance as a store patron in the popular American TV series “Law & Order” in 2010. Then “Runnin’ Time”, an action-comedy, was premiered in the CaribBEING Film Festival of 2011, and later went straight to DVD. It was distributed by VP records in 2012.
“Bashment” and “Foreign” are both highly acclaimed films, especially within the Caribbean community, and audiences are in love with the blend of comedy and high drama. Mykal Fax has high aspirations for his career and he is looking forward to taking on major roles and also representing authentic Caribbean characters on international big screens. Mykal is moving one step closer to his dream of becoming the first Caribbean-born black male to bring home the coveted Oscar award.
