Details: Guest: Rob Fletcher
"Think of it as 'American Idol' for fitness trainers," says Rob Fletcher about his proposed reality-TV show, "America's Next Great Trainer." Fletcher is a certified personal trainer and a lifelong resident of Suffern who has been working out since he was a teenager. He'll be shopping around his proposal at the Arnold (Schwarzenegger) Sports Festival Weekend, March 5 through 8 in Columbus, Ohio. The series is just one aspect of a larger plan which aims to promote healthy lifestyles and includes a book, radio show and online programming. The overall mission of ANGT, LLC, of which Fletcher is the president, is to educate, inspire, empower and transform lives across America by showcasing professional trainers, coaches and instructors.Another aspect of the plan is ANGT TV (www.angt.tv), which features dedicated online channels that will offer instructional segments, advice and tips on health, fitness, nutrition, sports performance and motivation, provided by health and fitness experts, trainers, doctors, pro athletes and lifestyle coaches."My personal stories of the people I've changed and empowered through fitness and martial arts training led me to create ANGT," says Fletcher, 52, adding that "the poor state of many Americans' fitness levels and health must be addressed."Fletcher's intense interest in health and fitness began at age 15, when he started working with weights and reading Muscle & Fitness magazine. He realized how much fitness and strength levels can boost a person's appearance and sense of well-being.In his early 20s, he decided to focus his life on fitness, immersing himself in the martial arts, eventually being named to the 1995 USA Kickboxing Team.Thirty years later, he is, not surprisingly, still a gung-ho fitness freak. Fletcher — who is 5-foot-10, 185 pounds and has 8 percent body fat — frequently sweats it out for an hour at Body Bank Fitness in New City and the New York Sports Club at the Palisades Center mall.
