My name is Thomas Johnson Jr. but most of my friends and clients call me TJ.I'm the eldest of 5 siblings. I was born in Liberia and raised by my grandmother who was wealthy at the time but things turned for the worse when the civil war broke out. She raised me until I was 6 years old. During this time my parents were living in Brooklyn. My sister and I were sent for shortly to join them and my two younger siblings who were both born in Brooklyn. We moved to Staten Island when I was 9 years old. This was where I spent the majority of my childhood. My love for health and fitness started at an early age. It actually started in Liberia. During the civil war my uncles found ways to keep themselves in shape despite there being no gyms around. My two uncles actually created their own equipment using concrete and metal pipes that they found. They created a bench, barbells and even dumbbells. At the tinder age of 5 years old I became fascinated by their creativity and ingenuity. I saw how their body's were transforming from training with their home made equipment. These guys (my grandmother's two youngest sons) were my first real role models and I wanted to be just like them. My interest for fitness would later on be re-ignited when I got to the United States. My father started his nightly workout routine in our small apartment in Brownsville Brooklyn, which consisted of catastatics and other basic exercise movements. I use to join him during his exercise routine. When he stopped I continued. When we moved to Staten Island a few years later, exercising had already became a hobby of mine. When I competed with my friends I realized that I was usually stronger or faster than they were. This drove me to keep on top of my regiment. I was and still am very competitive. I played football and ran track in high school and played rugby and intramural football in college. I came to college with the mindset of being a business major but this changed when I realized that I wasn't too passionate about business. I heard that my college has a personal training Minor so I decided to take that. Later on I added Nutrition as my major. During this time I was working at my College Fitness Center. I fell in love with the fact that i was able to change the students and faculty's life's for the better through personal training, motivation and nutrition. When I was training my clients it made me feel good. It didn't feel like I was working. I knew that was my calling and I haven't turned back since. Now I own a start-up Health and Fitness Company, GetUpNGetFit LLC.
