ABOUT RICKY BATS:
Ricky Bats (BATS is an acronym for Born A True Spitter) grew up in the South Bronx section of New York City. Street violence and drugs were common in his neighborhood and he began selling drugs at a very young age. At only 15 years old, he was riding in the backseat of his friend's hatchback when the car was sprayed with bullets piercing through the vehicle and hitting Bats in his back. To this day Bats still carries that bullet next to his spine. After being released from Lincoln Hospital he was back into the street life. As time went on, Bats and his older brother Bang took their lucrative street life to Massachusetts.
After a turn of events, Bats found himself serving 7-9 years in state prison for two attempted murders with two firearm possessions. He served just over 7 years of his sentence, was released on parole and returned to the street life. In the meantime, Bang had established BangOut Entertainment (B.O.E.) and had a small recording studio in his apartment. The plan was to build capital needed to invest in their aspiring music career. For the following six months he kept in the studio while Bang was on his boards producing beats. Music should have been the number one priority, but the money comes slow. They soon found themselves the target of a drug task force investigation. A string of raids and arrests soon followed, and Bats found himself in prison again. This time for felony possession of a firearm and cocaine trafficking. As a repeat offender the DA hit him with being a career felon and sentenced him to 9-12 years in state prison. While in prison he recorded his first mixtape “Bars Behind Bars: True Story No Gimmicks” over the phone with his cousin Truly UrzZz. He came home from his bid in 2014 and has grown creatively as a songwriter and artist. Since coming home he’s recorded over 100 songs between Quad Studios in NYC and Stupid Genius Studio in Lowell, MA. He released his mixtape “Bronx Born Prison Raised Vol. 1” less than 3 months after coming home.
Bats has performed at numerous locations such as Coco66 in Brooklyn, Eve Ultra Lounge in Staten Island, Pyramid Club in Manhattan and Club Morabeza in Brockton, MA. He’s been featured in various media outlets like Hip Hop Vibe, East2West Magazine, Video City TV, Video Music Box, mtvU, mtv.com, VH1, More Then Music, Philly’s PCRadioLive, ElegantHoodness, and also has several videos posted on Worldstar Hip Hop. Bats was also featured in the 2015 Freshman Edition of XXL. His music has been played in venues such as Lust, LQ (Latin Quarters) and Club Providence, all in NYC, and also on Shade 45’s Showoff Casino, Buffalo’s 93.7 The Blackout and ESPN’s First Take. His third mixtape “Bronx Born Prison Raised Vol. 2” was released in July 2015, which will be followed by his first LP that will showcase fire such as “On My Block” featuring Maino from HustleHard.
Ricky Bats is recognized as one of the hardest working indie artists coming out of the Bronx. Look out for his upcoming projects!
